The City of North Myrtle Beach announced the death of former North Myrtle Beach city councilwoman Doris Williams, who passed away Tuesday night.

She served on the North Myrtle Beach City Council from November 2003 to November 2011. The city says she was "known for her drive, passion and loyalty as she strove to support projects and issue stances that she believed would lead to a better North Myrtle Beach. Doris was also a very compassionate and supportive friend to many here, and throughout the state and nation."

A memorial service will be held Monday, June 25, 11:00 a.m. at Lee Funeral Home.

The North Myrtle Beach City Council and city staff extend their deep condolences to her husband, Ed, and their family. We here at NewsChannel 15 and CarolinaLive.com do as well.
