Despite all the changes, many bikers are sticking to the traditional dates for the May bike rallies.

"This is our kick off weekend," said Suck Bang Blow Manager Bill Barker. "We've been in a little tussle with the county and Harley Davidson trying to figure out exactly what they want to do, but we're sticking with the original dates and 99 percent of everybody is going to do that."

Date changes have caused confusion over when the festivities would start.

Myrtle Beach Harley hosts the rally and in January, it changed the dates from May 14th-20th to the 18th-28th.

Last Month, that change was followed by the Town of Atlantic Beach changing its rally to the same ten days.

But even with those dates a week away, hundreds of riders showed up on the Grand Strand Friday afternoon.

"There's always politics in everything, but I think they're going to have a really good turnout," said Murrells Inlet resident George Ream.

Ream believes this weekend is the beginning of a three week long festival, and return riders agree.

"People take off every year at a certain time to come down here like us," said Maryland biker John Venizelos. "We come down here certain dates and that's it."

Barber said the south end of the Grand Strand will always recognize the rally starting the second weekend in May.

"Back in the day when we were a full ten day bike week according to the county, this was the first weekend. We still go business as usual," said Barber. "We're gonna rock and roll."

Suck Bang Blow plans to run its events from this weekend until Sunday, May 20th.
