The Door of Hope Christian Church in Marion is hosting the Kingdom of the Arts and Media conference to help young people learn to better appreciate and develop an interest for the arts.
The conference focuses on music, dance, theater, visual arts and the media.
It begins Thursday, March 21 and ends on Sunday March 24 at the Door of Hope Church on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Marion.
"We're bringing people who are in to dance, into mime, into vocals and choirs and praise and worship. But we also wanted to introduce some people who are in the media and people who are in theater and the visual arts to broaden our perspective of what it means to be in the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is not limited to religiosity," said Bishop Michael Blue, Door of Hope Christian Church.
Bishop Michael Blue is the head pastor of the church. He says the idea of an arts conference started from a praise and worship gathering, but they wanted to do more to reach young people.
"We've come to understand that one of the most influential aspects of culture is the arts , entertainment, obviously song , dance. Not just in a church context, but in a whole societal context," Blue explained.
Actor Clifton Davis will be one of the featured speakers. He is most wellknown for his role as Reverend Reuben Gregory on the television series "Amen."
Recording musician Aaron Lindsey will also take part in the event. He's worked with several gospel groups including Israel Houghton and New Breed.
The conference is free.
