SAINT-JEROME, Quebec (AP) - A daring daylight jailbreak up a rope to a hovering helicopter is over for two Quebec inmates northwest of Montreal.

Quebec provincial police say they have arrested a total of four people about 30 miles north of the Saint-Jerome jail, including both escaped inmates. One had been holed up in a building and surrounded until early Monday.

A police official says the barricaded inmate surrendered peacefully after some negotiation.

Quebec provincial police tracked down the helicopter used in Sunday afternoon's escape, but only the chopper's pilot was still at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital and treated for shock. He is considered "an important witness" in the case.
