A North Myrtle Beach golf retailer is the first on the Grand Strand to be "certified locally owned", as part of a new shop local movement.
Golf Dimensions is listed on the shoplocal.us website, which got its start in Redondo Beach, California, but now lists businesses across the country.
According to a press release provided by the website, the store's owners recognize the significance of being a locally owned business.
"It's important for people to know that we have roots in the community and that we're locals and know our customers by name," said Jonathan Smith of Golf Dimensions.
The president of the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce says he doesn't see a downside to joining one of the new shop local websites, but advises businesses to do their research first.
"Some entrepreneurs are looking at opportunities and I think you just have to look at what's in it for them versus what's in it for you," said Marc Jordan. "As far as the local community is concerned, we encourage people to shop local."
Jordan says as they would for any product, business owners should do some homework and pick the shop local web site that works best for them.
Golf Dimensions has been in North Myrtle Beach for more than 24 years and has two retail stores on the Grand Strand.
