A judge sentenced a man to five years in prison for his role in a fight that killed a Marion County man outside Williams-Brice Stadium following a South Carolina football game.

Tuesday, a jury found Curtis Simms, 27, guilty of Breach of Peace, but not guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter. Simms was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but the judge suspended five years as long as Simms completes three years of probation and takes anger management classes.

Witnesses testified Simms and 20-year-old Allen Gasque were both drunk in October 2010 when they got out of the vehicles they were in and began fighting in heavy traffic after the South Carolina-Alabama football game.

Authorities say a punch from Simms knocked Gasque to the ground, and he was run over and killed.

Gasque, a former Marion High School and Coker College baseball player, died at the hospital.
