Firefighters say a woods fire in the Effingham community of Florence County is 100% contained.

A passerby called 911 around 2:30 p.m. to report the fire on Myers Cemetery Road.

About 25 acres burned, according to Ric Collins with the Howe Springs Fire Department.

Collins says the South Carolina Forestry Commission used three plows to put a break around the fire to keep it from spreading. More than 26 firefighters responded to the scene Thursday afternoon, and it took about four hours to completely contain the fire.

Collins says he expects the fire to smoke for the next few days until the area receives rain.
