A 25-year-old man is facing a 3rd degree assault charge, after police said he threw his shoe at an officer while in the city jail in Myrtle Beach.

Houston Baird Weatherford, 25, from Murrells Inlet was arrested Wednesday night at Broadway at the Beach.

Officers were called there on a report of a disturbance.

When they got there, security had Weatherford detained for trespassing.

An officer said Weatherford was slurring his speech and appeared unsteady on his feet, according to the Myrtle Beach police report.

When he refused to go home in a taxi, he was arrested for public intoxication and trespassing.

When Weatherford was inside the city jail, he was asked to remove his shoes.

That is when he threw a shoe at an officer walking by, according to the report.

Weatherford is being held without bond.
