Wednesday marks the opening day for tax season, after the Internal Revenue Service had to push back the original date of January 22 to start filing due to the fiscal cliff debate.
Nearly a month ago, Congress came up with an agreement to avoid the fiscal cliff but because lawmakers came so close to the edge, their actions or inactions caused a setback in filing tax returns.
Tax returns claiming the American Opportunity Tax Credit or the Lifetime Learning Credit, two popular education credits, won't be processed until mid-February.
