GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WPDE) - A horror movie filmed in Georgetown County is finally being shown in the town that served as its backdrop. "The Bay" premiered in other parts of the country a couple months ago, but this weekend, locals will get to see it on the big screen at Strand Cinema.

Kelly Marshall Fuller had a tiny part in the movie, but that hasn't minimized her excitement. She already watched the movie online, but she's looking forward to its local debut.

"I was very impressed. I loved it. I thought it was a really good movie, and it's gotten good reviews too. Not just from me," said Fuller.

Shot in 2010, "The Bay" is an environmental thriller set in a Maryland town off the Chesapeake Bay. In the film, parasites make their way into the town's water supply and ultimately into the bodies of the town's residents. Georgetown landmarks are easily recognizable.

"You can see different people that you know running by screaming. They don't look all that happy because they're being eaten alive by a virus," added Fuller with a laugh. "I know a guy who works with EMS and he was loading one of the injured people into an ambulance. And some of the police officers."

One of those faces includes her daughter Jennifer Burch. The then-16-year-old went from an innocent looking girl, to a possessed creature - courtesy of Hollywood makeup.

"She actually had a very big part and they kept adding parts. They were writing the script as they were making the movie and they were making more scenes to include her because they liked her improvisation so much."

Fuller is also a fan of the film's message. "It's a horrifying movie, but you know it has a good message. We do need to be more careful with the environment and this is the damage that we're doing."

She'd also like to see more filmmakers come to tow., "We have history, it's so gothic. We have the lovely downtown area with all the homes from the Revolutionary War. We have plantations. We have everything. We have talented people."

The Bay is being shown at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Strand Cinema on Front Street.

The movie is directed by Barry Levinson. The producers also worked on the films "Paranormal Activity" and "Insidious."
