An employee of Grand Strand Regional Medical Center is in jail after police say he was illegally obtaining prescription drugs.

Columbus County Sheriff office charged Anthony Crocco with Obtaining Controlled Substance by Fraud and Forgery and two counts of Trafficking in Opium or Heroin on December 21st.

Hospital Chief Operating Officer Adam Rudd said Crocco was not a nurse but did confirm Crocco worked for the hospital.

The hospital released a statement saying: "We are aware of the situation and are working with local authorities in their investigation of this individual who is no longer employed by the hospital. Medication safety is very important to us. While the hospital has processes in place that support medication safety and security, we currently are reviewing those processes to identify potential opportunities to improve."

As of Friday morning, Crocco was being held at Columbus County Detention Center. His bond was set at $35,000.
