The Marlboro County Sheriff's Office arrested a 22-year-old Bennettsville man for murder early Friday morning.

David Eric Dixon, of 203 Dogwood Ave., also faces charges for possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and attempted murder, according to Sheriff Fred Knight.

Around 10 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a shooting at "Woody's" at 1216 Stone Away Rd. in Bennettsville. Upon arrival deputies learned two victims had been shot.

One victim was shot while coming out of the front door of the business. That victim was then transported to the hospital by a friend and is in good condition, according to the MCSO.

The second victim, Christopher Allen Bristow, 27, died as a result of gunshot wounds.

Dixon then fled the scene on foot and was captured in Marlboro County a little over two hours later after investigators received numerous tips.

Dixon has several past convictions for various offenses including burglary and drugs.

The MCSO and Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office bloodhounds responded to the scene to assist in the search.

The Bennettsville Police Department also assisted the search effort.

"This is a tragic case where a young man's life was taken in a split second. We are fortunate to have the suspect in custody and have gathered a lot of great evidence and information from witnesses. My condolences go out to the victim's family in this time of hurt and the loss of a family member," Sheriff Knight said.

According to Knight, the MSCO has consulted with 4th circuit solicitor Will Rogers and says additional charges may be pending.
