A Myrtle Beach man is being held in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center after being arrested for a nightclub shooting on Saturday morning.

The shooting happened at Crush Gentleman's Club on US 17 Bypass.

A security guard standing outside heard the door to the business bust open and a gun shot coming from inside about 3:30 a.m., according to Horry County Police Sergeant Robert Kegler. He also saw Gerard Antonio Watts running from the club behind a group of men, and then heard another gun shot.

The security guard told police he asked Watts to drop his gun when he turned in his direction. When the security guard felt that his life was in danger, he shot at Watts seven times, according to the police report.

Watts was hit by at least one round.

A truck then pulled up with a group of men. They took Watts to the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where he was hospitalized until Wednesday.

Horry County Police arrested Watts Wednesday. He faces charges of Attempted Murder, and Possesion of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.

Sgt. Kegler said no one was seriously hurt in the shooting.

There was also a shooting at nearby Red Barn Tavern that morning, but Sgt. Kegler says the two shootings are not related.
