With thousands of Florence County residents still without power and the weather as hot as it is, Florence County, in coordination with the American Red Cross, has opened an emergency shelter at Wilson High School.

As of 8 p.m. Monday, the shelter is open and ready for residents.

This shelter will be open 24 hours a day until all power in the county is restored.

Wilson High School is located at 1411 Old Marion Highway, Florence, S.C. 29506.

This shelter is staffed by American Red Cross volunteer. Residents who are without electrical power are encouraged to seek refuge from the heat at this shelter.

Monday, the county opened two cooling centers that were available to residents. Those have closed and will not re-open. This shelter has opened in place of those.
