GEORGETOWN COUNTY -- Heavy rain fell along the Grand Strand, especially in the Murrells Inlet area, as thunderstorms moved through the area Wednesday afternoon.

A flood warning was issued for extreme south central Horry County and and extreme east central Georgetown County until 5:30 p.m.

There were several reports of cars in ditches, including the one pictured with this story on Highway 17 near the VFW in Murrells Inlet.

Flooding is being reported throughout Murrells Inlet, including on Highway 17 in front of Waccamaw Community Hospital, in the restaurant row area near the Lazy Gator, and near SBB Four Corners, where many of the Harley riders travel.

The rain put a damper on festivities for the Harley riders in town for the spring motorcycle rally. Many of them took cover under gas station awnings when the rain hit.

Highway 17 in Pawleys Island is also treacherous. Retention ponds are overflowing, and there is heavy ponding on the roads.

Lake Swamp Road in Horry County is closed due to flooding between Galivants Ferry and Green Sea.
