A strong storm system along the Gulf Coast is sending rain northward into the Carolinas.

As we move into the evening, the rain will become more widespread and even heavy at times.

Rain continues through 4am, then will taper off before sunrise. Most areas will pick up 1" - 2" by early Friday morning.

With projected rainfall totals over 1", this will be the most rain we've had all year long and the biggest one day rain event since the day after Christmas.

The storm system departs Friday morning, leaving us with partly sunny skies, windy conditions and temperatures in the low 60s.

Expect a nice weekend with lots of sunshine and highs mainly in the 50s and lows in the 30s.

Once this storm system leaves us, it heads for New England where a historic blizzard is possible.

Between Friday morning and Saturday evening, more than 2 feet of snow could fall on parts of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Vermont.

To make matters worse, winds along the coast could gust to 70 mph.
