Junebugs Care and Church in the Sandhurst community of Florence County sponsored a pancake and sausage supper to benefit Owen Plasman and his family.

Owen is 9 years old and is fighting Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer.

He's currently undergoing chemotherapy in Columbia in preparation for surgery in Charleston.

"He has so much energy about him. And that cancer has really not slowed that down much. He's formed a strong testimony through the trial that he's going through right now," said Bo Myers, Junebugs Care.

More than 1,000 tickets were sold for the benefit.

Long lines filled the church's gymnasium.

Organizers say they're amazed at the outpouring of love and support for Owen.

"The community has really just wrapped their arms around that family with a tremendous amount of love."

The community is planning a drop in and a poker run for Owen in the coming days.
