RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Grass Roots North Carolina scheduled a "Second Amendment Freedom Rally" at midday Tuesday on the mall behind the Legislative Building in downtown Raleigh. The group was expected to attract several hundred gun owners and supporters who want to meet with lawmakers and legislative leaders.

Gun issues are getting attention as President Barack Obama is promoting gun-control legislation in Congress following the Connecticut school shootings.

Similar legislation isn't likely to pass at the Republican-control General Assembly, but Grass Roots North Carolina says it would seek legislation in Raleigh allowing teachers and other concealed weapons permittees to be armed on school campuses.
