The holidays are tough for people who have lost loved ones, and to make it a little easier, Mercy Care, a local hospice, holds a memorial service each year.

Thursday, they held the service at Beach Church in Horry County.

They say it gives families and friends a chance to honor those who they've lost.

Counseling director Mike Neil says, "To have a loved one that you've lost and maybe you've not celebrated that event since then, but to gather them together to honor their loved ones and there's a healing that begins in that."

After the ceremony a tree was lit, and each light on it celebrates a life.
