Saturday the Myrtle Beach NAACP held a vigil where they lit candles for Trayvon Martin and victims of violence. The event featured guest speakers from the community.

But there were a lot of empty chairs at the rally, held at the Kingston Lake Center in Loris.

"Why we gotta bring a body out here in front to pack our house? That's sad isn't it," said Myrtle Beach NAACP President Mickey James.

James says the African-American community is suffering a great loss.

"A lot of our kids with this issue that is going on across the country. And we're going to do something," he said.

It's been almost three months since Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by self appointed neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman.

The rally comes as new evidence was released in the Trayvon Martin case. The Sanford police department in Florida released photos showing George Zimmerman's injuries. Prosecutors say he was racially profiling Martin. Zimmerman is charged with second degree murder and has pleaded not guilty. A report from the fire department says Zimmerman had "abrasions to his forehead," "bleeding and tenderness to his nose," and a "small laceration to the back of his head." One witness said he saw Martin hitting Zimmerman.

Angela Corey the prosecutor in this case says partial evidence does not reveal her entire case against George Zimmerman.

"There's a lot that we cannot release by law, and so we're still asking people to wait and look at all of the evidence. We've been asking that from the beginning, but nobody seems to want to do that."

Back in Horry County James says regardless of the Martin case, there is a lesson to be learned.

"Main thing is getting involved in your local community. People can involved in little groups and talking about and say hey look, this is an issue we need to address. In our churches, our schools, and our civic groups," James said.
