Dozens of crews from Horry County Fire Rescue and the Myrtle Beach fire department were dispatched to a mobile home community off 707 in Socastee early Monday morning after an abandoned mobile home caught fire and spread to two other neighboring homes.
It happened on Holly Circle around 1:00 a.m.
Crews were dispatched out to a working structure fire.
Assistant Horry County Fire Rescue Chief, Douglas Klien, says the first crews on the scene found an abandoned mobile home that was fully involved and it extended to two other structures. There were people living in to two other homes. Klien says they were able to get out of the home and no one was hurt. Firefighters were still on scene at 1:30, spraying homes in the neighborhood with water and blocking off traffic to Holly Circle.
Many neighbors were outside their homes watching the scene, visibly shaken and worried about returning inside.
Klien says they were lucky because these home were so closed together.
The mobile home that caught fire was about 25 feet away from the adjacent structures, which is common in areas like this across the county.
He says any time you have a fire in a structure, the radiant heat along with the flames itself can involve another structure and create another fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
