A group upset over the reassignment of a Florence principal has filed a federal lawsuit against the district, but this lawsuit centers around voting rights.

The group, Save our Children, has had several protests in response to Wilson High School Principal Dr. Gerard Edwards being moved to the alternative school.

Monday, we learned the group filed a federal lawsuit against the district.

The lawsuit says the district violated the Voting Rights Act of 1965 for the school board elections in 2006, 2008 and 2010 by implementing voting changes never approved the Department of Justice.

Save our Children is asking for a declaratory judgement that the Voting Rights Act was violated.

This is the second lawsuit filed against the district this school year. In December, two parents sued over a sewage problem at Delmae Elementary School.
