While no one in South Carolina won the big Powerball jackpot Wednesday night, a $2 million ticket was sold in Andrews and a $1 million ticket was sold in Florence.
H & S Shoppe at 430 E. Main St. in Andrews sold the Powerball® ticket worth $2 million, and Cruizers XII at 2124 N. Williston Rd. in Florence sold a $1 million ticket.
"Excited. Amazing, that's the way I feel. You know that someone bought a ticket from here," said Jequetta Pete, Manager at the H & S Shoppe in Andrews
The store's clerk at the Cruizers XII in Florence said they were busy all day Wednesday and sold 1,400 Powerball tickets. That's a record for the store.
The clerk added that she had a feeling something big was going to happen.
"I told everybody who came in here that this store that we're gonna have a big winner. So, they started buying tickets even more," Brenda Shuler stated.
The owner of Cruiser VII says he expects to get $10,000 from the lottery for selling the winning ticket.
Another $1 million ticket was sold in Rock Hill.
The six-figure winners matched all five white ball numbers drawn to win $1 million. One of the ticket holders purchased PowerPlay® for an extra $1, to have the $1 million Match 5 prize increased to $2 million.
According to the South Carolina Education Lottery Commission, a total of 140,435 winning tickets were sold in South Carolina.
Eleven players in the Palmetto State won $10,000, and thousands more won smaller prizes.
The winning numbers of the $579 million Powerball jackpot are 5, 16, 22, 23, 29 and Powerball of 6. Tickets sold in Arizona and Missouri matched all six numbers to share the jackpot.
The South Carolina Education Lottery advises all players to sign the back of their winning tickets. Players have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes.
