Florence County Deputy Coroner Don Reynolds says Lori Pruett, 36, was killed early Thursday morning when her car was hit by another vehicle that was being chased by Georgia Woodberry, 31, of Florence.

Woodberry is now charged with two counts of Attempted Murder and Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle.

Deputies say Woodberry was chasing two people who were traveling in a Chevrolet Impala on National Cemetary Road towards Florence about 7 a.m. Thursday. They say Woodberry was shooting into the Impala.

Deputies say the Impala drove into the intersection of Freedom Boulevard and hit a Camaro driven by Pruett.

Pruett had worked at Carolinas Hospital System for just one month. Her co-workers say she came to Florence in January with her husband because his employer transferred him to the area.

Pruett's fellow nurses are devastated by her death.

"She was one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. When you met her it was like you're meeting your best friend and always had a smile on her face. The patients loved her, the staff of the CVICU loved her, " said Cynthia Williams, RN, Carolinas Hospital System.

Williams says Pruett had been a registered nurse for more than 10 years. She says she knew from the moment she interviewed Pruett, she was the right person for the job.

Williams says Pruett had really come to love the community in a short amount of time.

"She loved Florence and said she loved her job, and it was just working out so well with her. She loved her animals. They had purchased a new home at the Country Club of South Carolina and they loved her new home - said it was just beautiful, but everybody at the Country Club of South Carolina was so nice to them and they had already made friends."

Williams says she sat with Pruett's husband in the emergency while doctors worked on her. She says he was later comforted by his fellow co-workers.

Williams says even though they didn't know Pruett very long, they will miss her.

"She's only been here a month, but in that one month she's made more friends than you can imagine and the unit that she worked in all the units really are just devastated. I mean, I can't even explain the tone of the unit to you. There just so down because she was just such a positive factor in there."

Pruett was on her way to work when the crash happened.

The two people in the Impala that hit Pruett were also taken to the hospital. Deputies say their injuries are significant, and one of the passengers was also shot.

Deputies say Woodberry was involved in a domestic incident with the two people in the Impala Wednesday night.

Woodberry is expected to go before a Florence County Magistrate Judge to be arraigned Friday afternoon.
