MYRTLE BEACH -- Just before midnight Monday evening, Myrtle Beach Fire and Police Departments responded to smoke coming from the abandoned Sportsman Hotel at 1501 S. Oceans Blvd in Myrtle Beach.

"We did have flames upon arrival, and we made quick knockdowns with the first alarm crews," said MBFD Battalion Chief Ian Maxwell.

Guests of the Landmark Resort next to the hotel called emergency crews, said Maxwell.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. But officials believe that someone started the fire. "There is just normal hotel furnishing in there to be honest with you. It looks like they just closed the doors and walked away from it."

The building is unoccupied and has no power, said Maxwell.

"We along with Myrtle Beach Police are investigating it at this time."

No one was injured in the fire.
