More than 900 people competed in Saturday's amateur races in the USA Triathlon sanctioned Myrtle Beach Triathlon.

Saturday's halfmax race consisted of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run. There were also intermediate and sprint levels with shorter distances. In all races, competitors swam through a portion of the intercoastal waterway. They also ran and biked on local roads, Highway 31 and Highway 17 bypass.

According to organizer Ultramax Events, Myrtle Beach is the sixth of a series of races held to have competitors race for prize money and practice on roadways similar to the 2012 London Olympics.

The USAT Elite Series Event will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2011:

• Women Professional Elite Start Time - 7:30 am

• Men Professional Elite Start Time - 10:00 am
