COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina will soon know if the state's jobless rate is continuing its downward slide.

The Department of Employment and Workforce is expected to release December's unemployment rate on Friday.

In November, South Carolina's jobless rate dropped for the fourth straight month. State officials said the mark of 8.3 percent was South Carolina's lowest unemployment rate since October 2008.

Jobless rates fell in all but one of the state's 46 counties. South Carolina added nearly 10,000 jobs in November, with most of those in retail as the Christmas shopping season approached.

The peak unemployment rate was 12 percent in November 2009.
