SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a 7-year-old girl was ejected from the SUV she was riding in during a crash after she unbuckled her seat belt to throw marijuana out the window during a police chase.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said his deputies were doing a traffic crackdown Monday morning when they noticed the SUV driving erratically. Officers began to chase the vehicle.

The sheriff says the SUV was going 100 mph before the crash.

Wright says the child survived, but is bad shape. Her aunt was driving and suffered broken bones, but is expected to recover. A half-pound of marijuana was found in the SUV and the sheriff thinks the woman told the niece to throw the drugs out the window.

No charges have been filed as troopers continue to investigate.
