(AP) -- South Carolina's top prosecutor is participating in a voter ID discussion that is also a fundraiser for a conservative activist currently on federal probation.

Attorney General Alan Wilson's office says the Republican is sitting down April 17 with James O'Keefe for a meeting in Columbia.

The event is being marketed as a fundraiser for O'Keefe's nonprofit organization, Project Veritas. The cost to attend is $50 per person. Organizers say proceeds benefit the group that says it investigates and exposes corruption.

O'Keefe was sentenced to three years probation after pleading guilty in 2010 to trying to tamper with the phones in U.S. Sen.

Mary Landrieu's office. O'Keefe said he was trying to investigate complaints that constituents could not get through to criticize the Democrat's support of a health care reform bill.
