A property in Horry County that is supposed to be a safe house for women and children has been vandalized for the third time.

Sheila Hemingway owns the property, and this week, she said she walked in to find shattered glass doors and windows, splattered paint, and stolen items.

"It really hurts me to even see this being done like this. It hurts be to believe that someone would even do this," Hemingway said.

Hemingway says all of the carpet in the hallway, the paint on the walls in multiple rooms, and numerous doors and windows have to be replaced. Many items, such as hot water heaters and air conditioning units were also stolen.

"I'm wondering why, why would you do something so cruel to a person trying to give a hand- not only a hand out, but a hand up," Hemingway said.

A string of angry messages were also found on doors and windows across the home.

"They left a message: 'There's no escape. Run.' I don't know what it means," Hemingway said.

Shelia says the threats on the wall may have been meant to scare her, but they won't stop her from accomplishing her dream.

"Right now, I'm just wondering where is the money going to come from? It's almost impossible to get it up and running again. But I'm hoping with help from people in the community and maybe some donations, that someone will reach out and help us."

Hemingway says officers will patrol the property 24 hours a day. If anyone knows any more about the situation, they are asked call the Horry County Police Department.

Hemingway's non-profit organization is accepting donations to replace some of the damaged items as well as monetary donations. If you'd like to help in any way, call (843) 712-0122.
