Polls open Tuesday morning at 7 o'clock for the 2013 Republican primary election for Horry County Council chairman.

Registered voters will be required to show a form of identification as part of South Carolina's new state voter identification law that went into effect January 1. Voters may choose from five acceptable forms of identification: South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles identification card, voter's registration card with picture, federal military identification with picture or a United States passport.

Curbside voting will also be available to voters Tuesday. Voters aged 65 and older and any voter with a physical handicap who cannot enter the polling center may vote outside in their car.

Voters will choose from among five candidates: Al Allen, Liz Gilland, Debbie Harwell, Mark Lazarus and Fonzie Lewis.

The winner will complete the two years left in former Council Chairman Tom Rice's term, who now serves as the 7th Congressional Representative in Washington.

Polls close at 7 p.m., after which votes will be tallied.
