The American Cancer Society will host an information program for individuals interested in volunteering to help local cancer patients and their families.

Interested people can meet with ACS Mission Delivery Manager Denise Richbourg between 10:30-11:30 AM on Thursday, March 14 at McLeod Cancer Clinic.

The clinic is located on the second floor of McLeod Medical Park West on the main hospital campus, 555 E. Cheves St. in Florence.

"We need volunteers to help local cancer patients and their families in free Cancer Resource Centers (CRCs) at both Florence hospitals," Richbourg said.

Other local volunteer opportunities include:

· driving patients to treatments

· licensed cosmetologists/estheticians needed to lead patient sessions for women in cancer treatment

· holding a fund-raiser to support our American Cancer Society Relay For Life in your community

· joining our American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network to support legislative efforts that affect cancer prevention, detection and research

· sewing turbans from simple patterns, knitting caps or making breast comfort pillows.

Drop in on March 14 to see the Cancer Resource Center and learn more about ACS volunteer opportunities.

Contact Denise Richbourg at 843-213-0333 ext. 29160 or e-mail denise.richbourg@cancer.org. Call 800-227-2345 any time, day or night.

Cancer Resource Center volunteers are asked to give four hours during the day, once a week or once a month.

Volunteers provide patients and caregivers with timely information, help and support as they manage their cancer journey. They help people facing cancer with one-on-one assistance by connecting them with ACS and local resources.

No experience is necessary.

Volunteers are trained by the American Cancer Society and the hospital
