Conway police arrested Melinda Knowles, 32, for Driving Under the Influence and Open Container.
Police say a car on Elm Street crossed the outside white line about 4:20 a.m. Saturday in front of Conway Middle School.
The officer says the car made a left turn onto 13th Avenue.
The officer says Knowles had slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol coming from the car.
The officer added that she failed the field sobriety test and then he found two cups with alcoholic beverages in the car.
Knowles refused the breath analysis test and her license was suspended.
A passenger in the car was cited for open container.
Knowles is an assistant public defender in the 15th Circuit, which serves Horry and Georgetown counties.
We left a message with Circuit Public Defender Orrie West for comment.
