Next Tuesday, residents of Horry County will hit the voting booths to vote in the primary for the Horry County Council Chair vacant seat.

The primary is set for March 12th and the general election will be held April 30th. All five candidates are running under a republican ticket.

Al Allen, Liz Gilland, Debbie Harwell, Mark Lazarus and Fonzie Lewis are all running.

Below is a little information on each candidate:

Debbie Harwell is the President & CEO Adobe Palm Enterprises and former member of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors.

She was the founder of the Myrtle Beach Herald Newspaper and for years was a host on WRNN 99.5 FM, streaming inside your computer with the "Steve, Debbie, and Dave Show"

Mark Lazarus is a former Horry County Councilman and local businessman. He formerly represented District 2 as a Horry County Council Member.

He is the managing partner of Wild Water and Wheels in Surfside Beach and also works at Waccamaw Land and Timber.

Al Allen is a County Councilman representing District 11. He is a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the S.C. Air National Guard. After his military service and college attendance at The Ohio State University and The Community College of The Air Force,

Allen pursued a career in Law Enforcement which began with the Florence City Police Department then as the Training Officer for The Conway City Police Department and later with The Horry County Sheriff's Office.

Liz Gilland is a Conway native and former county council chair. She was elected to Horry County Council in 1994 and re-elected in 1998 and 2002. She was elected chairwoman in 2003 and re-elected in 2006.

Fonzie Lewis ran unsuccessfully for Horry County Council in 2006 and for S.C. House District 58 in 2008.
