The Thunderbirds were expected to fly over the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk as part of an air show celebrating the city's 75th birthday this summer, but their appearance is in jeopardy because of the sequestration.

U.S. Air Force officials announced they've cancelled aerial demonstration team performances past April 1.

A news release states, "Sequestration temporarily limits our ability to travel, but it doesn't stop us from reaching out within our community to tell the Air Force story," said Lieutenant Col. Greg Moseley. "We still have an obligation to educate people about our great Air Force and the incredible things our Airmen do."

Myrtle Beach Air Show officials say the show will go on even if the Thunderbirds do not participate.

"Although we are optimistic that an agreement will be reached, we intend to produce the airshow regardless of the Thunderbird's attendance," said George Cline, president and owner of Air Boss Inc. who is overseeing management of the airshow. "Even though the Thunderbirds are A-list performers in the air show circuit, the other talent line-up secured for our show is impressive and will no doubt attract a strong audience, especially considering the air show is free and will serve as one of several events to celebrate the City of Myrtle Beach's 75th anniversary of incorporation."

The free event is scheduled for June 28 - 30.
