Police and State Law Enforcement Division agents have made tremendous progress in the investigation of a shooting that took the life of a Coastal Carolina University student Tuesday and are close to making an arrest, according to 15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson.

Richardson told NewsChannel 15 he was set to meet with CCU police and SLED investigators Thursday morning to review information in the case, with the aim toward issuing an arrest warrant.

Anthony Liddell, 19, from Bennettsville, died of massive bleeding from a gunshot wound, according to the Horry County coroner's office.

The shooting occurred at University Place residence hall, said university spokeswoman Martha Hunn.

Liddell was a sophomore at CCU, majoring in sports medicine.

Hunn says around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, police received a 911 call from University Place reporting that one person had been shot and taken to a hospital.

CCU police found Liddell laying in the parking lot with people around him, according to a police report.

Police called EMS and Liddell was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where he died in the emergency room.

Hunn says police believe they are looking for one shooter. Police believe the shooter left the scene in a dark colored sedan.

Richardson says police do not believe the shooting was a random act.

Anyone who has information regarding this shooting is asked to contact CCU Dept. of Public Safety at (843) 349-2177.

Thursday night at 6 p.m., CCU will host a candlelight vigil at Spadoni Park for Liddell.
