CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - A World War II veteran living in South Carolina is receiving France's highest military award.

Dwight Gentry of Conway is being honored Tuesday with the Legion of Honor with a presentation at Kingston Nursing Center.

Organizers say Gentry was a lieutenant and infantry company commander in France during World War II. He is a recipient of several U.S. military honors, including the Silver Star and four Purple Hearts.

The award was created by Napoleon in 1802 and recognizes services rendered to France "by persons of great merit."
