FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - Students at Florence's Southside Middle School are meeting with 10 Army soldiers in a class that explores career options.
Army spokeswoman Leslie Ann Sully says Tuesday's event gives students a chance to hear about what kind of job skills can be learned during military service.
Teacher Michael Stokes says the event is not a recruiting event, but rather part of a state-mandated class that covers college and vocational school preparation, as well as the introduction to military service.
Stokes says the class allows students to talk with the soldiers during a panel discussion and then meet with them to hear what military training could offer them.
The teacher says students meet with others in the community to learn about many types of jobs and professions.
