(AP) -- Gov. Nikki Haley says South Carolina needs to get rid of government regulations that hamper businesses.

Haley signed an executive order Tuesday creating an 11-member task force to review regulations and make recommendations on which ones to throw out.

She's also directing her Cabinet members to review their agencies' regulations and report their recommendations to the task force by mid-May. She can't mandate other state agencies do the same, but she's encouraging them to do so.

The task force has until mid-November to issue its report to the Legislature. The idea is that regulation changes will be introduced for the 2014 legislative session.

Haley says regulations that slow things down are costing businesses money and jobs. She says she's not asking agencies to compromise safety.
