A public hearing is taking place at Hannah-Pamplico Elementary/Middle School cafeteria in Pamplico Tuesday night from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m to discuss the widening of SC-51 or Pamplico Highway.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is proposing to widen the highway from two travel lanes to four travel lanes, with an additional center turn lane throughout most of the project corridor, with the exception of the Hyman and Pamplico areas.

The project is a part of six roads being widened through the Florence County one-cent capital project sales tax referendum which was passed in November of 2006.

Residents will have the chance to take a look at maps detailing the widening of SC-51 and talk with project staff at the public hearing.

They will have the opportunity to ask questions as well.

A timeline has not been established as to when construction on the project will start.
