(AP) -- A judge has found Atlantic Beach in contempt of court for not making payments to settle two lawsuits.

The Sun News reports two long-standing lawsuits were settled in October. The first payment was made but payments of $7,700 each for last month and this month were not.

Mayor Retha Pierce told Circuit Court Judge Larry Hyman the town never authorized former town manager Calvin Blanton to settle the suits. Pierce also said Blanton didn't tell the town council about the required payments following the settlements.

But the judge said those arguments were not credible and ordered that the payments be made.

Hyman pointed out the settlement was entered in court and an order was issued that the town did not appeal.
