Fonnezle Delaine filed a motion to be tried separately from his co-defendants in a double murder case.
Prosecutors say Delaine hired Montez Barker to kill Billy Hall and his girlfriend, Talya Poston.
They were found shot to death on a dirt road in Florence County in September 2009.
Prosecutors say one of the victims was a witness against Delaine in a pending drug case.
The state is seeking the death penalty against Delaine and Barker.
A third suspect, Laross Graham, also faces two counts of Murder.
Prosecutors aren't releasing Graham's role in the murder, but says it will be revealed during the trial.
Twelfth Circuit Solicitor Ed Clements says Delaine and Barker have been indicted together.
A trial date has not been set.
