Florence School District One announced that it will conduct a series of active shooter training drills with each of its schools.

The drills will be held in cooperation with local law enforcement officials, including the Florence Police Department and the Florence County Sheriff's Office.

The first training drill will take place on Tuesday, January 22 from 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. at North Vista Elementary School.

Parents of students at North Vista Elementary have received notification via Florence One's call system of this drill by Principal Sharon Dixon, and after school activities which are normally scheduled at the school have been cancelled.

Across the street from North Vista is Williams Middle School. There, Principal Leon McCray, who will be dismissing students from the school during the time of the training at North Vista, has also provided parents of Williams Middle with prior notification of the drill also.

"The ultimate goal of the training is to enable responders to provide a quick response if any of type of emergency situation takes place on school campuses," assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services Lionel Brown, said.
