Florence School District One plans to install surveillance cameras and buzzer systems at its elementary schools.

Visitors will have to be buzzed in and say why they're at the school before allowed inside.

The system also allows principals to lock down their entire schools from their cell phones.

Every elementary school should have the new system by next month.

Administrators heightened security in the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Each school has its own emergency response team which is made up of principals, teachers and support staff.

There are also surveillance cameras set up at each school that are monitored by administrators and police.

The district is continuing to review its overall safety plan with Florence police and the Florence County Sheriff's Office.
