The Grand Strand may be getting its first new pier in about 20 years.

The Boulineau family would like to put a pier at the end of Sea Mountain Highway in the Cherry Grove area.

North Myrtle Beach City Council voted Monday night to change the zoning to allow the new pier.

There still needs to be another vote to pass, which is expected on February 4th.

The pier is expected to have a four-story building that would likely house a restaurant.

It will be the ninth pier along the strand.
