More than 800 soldiers with the South Carolina National Guard's 4th Battalion, 118th Infantry, "Task Force Rifles" are back in the Palmetto State Christmas Eve after a year long deployment in Kuwait.

The soldiers returned to Mt. Pleasant and Mullins throughout the day.

According the SC National National Guard, the unit mobilized in January and after training at Camp Shelby, Miss., and deployed to Kuwait in April.

During their deployment, "Task Force Rifles" provided all administration, logistical, legal, training, security, communication, medical and religious support for three camps in northern Kuwait.

They were commanded by Lt. Col. Frederick Pasley of Charleston.

Rebecca Gray waited for her soldier to return in Mullins Monday night and says, "It's been hard not having him to talk to when I need him...just to have him home will be wonderful."
