UPDATE: Amber Alert has been canceled. SLED says the children have been safely recovered and the father has been arrested.

A 2-year-old and a 5-year old were abducted around 7:30 a.m. Thursday from the Mount Croghan area of Chesterfield County, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Dennis Matthew Penny, 5, is 4 feet tall and weighs 47 pounds. He has blue eyes and short blonde hair. He was wearing a Buzz Lightyear pajama shirt and green fleece pants.

Grace Elizabeth Penny, 2, weighs 25 pounds. She has shoulder length reddish-blonde curly hair. She was wearing a blue shirt with a picture of a monkey on the front with red, white and blue pajama pants.

Police are looking for their father, Dennis Matthew Penny, II.

Penny forced himself into his wife's home this morning and took the children, according to Chesterfield County Sheriff Sam Parker.

"I'm so worried about the mental state of (the father) and what he's capable of doing," Parker said.

There was an emergency family court hearing pending involving the custody of the children, Parker added.

He said they're now getting information Penny may be traveling north with the children.

Penny is described as 37-years-old, 185 pounds, 5'10" tall, with blue eyes and brown hair.

He may be driving a 2005 white GMC Sierra pick up truck with a SC tag HXQ669. There are holes in both fenders on the back right and left.

Parker said they already have a warrant against Penny for Kidnapping and will soon have obtained one on a Burglary charge. He said Penny will be entered into the national crime database.
