FLORENCE, S.C. (WPDE) - People at more than 750 cemeteries nationwide honored veterans by laying Christmas wreaths on their graves Saturday.
This ceremony is known as Wreaths Across America.
The Florence National Cemetery held its service at Noon Saturday.
"This place is special to all of us cause sooner or later, one day we're going to be here," said Veteran Robert Burgas.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts held flags as they lined the enclosed the cemetery.
Troop leaders say this teaches them about the sacrifices made.
"It's tremendous joy to see our boys learn the significance of the flag and what sacrifices men and women made to protect our country," said Paul John.
Ceremonial wreaths were placed for each branch of the military and POW and MIA graves.
Almost 2,000 wreaths were placed at the Florence National Cemetery. Nationwide over 400,000 wreaths are expected to be laid.
