A man walked inside his home on McCutcheon Road in Lake City Thursday night and found an intruder in his house, according to deputies with the Florence County Sheriff's Office.
Captain Michael Nunn says the two men exchanged gunfire, but no one was hurt.
He says the homeowner and intruder ran out of the home during the gunfire.
The intruder got away.
Deputies used bloodhounds to canvass the woooded area behind the home, but the trail went cold.
Nunn says that's probably because the intruder got into a car.
