The South Carolina Department of Public Safety terminated Dominique Dewayne Pearson, 25, Friday, after he was arrested by Florence police.

He was a dispatcher in the Florence Telecommunications Center.

Florence police charged him with Banking/Federally Chartered or Insured Financial Institution Crime and Financial ID Fraud.

"Although our TCOs are civilian employees, they are expected to adhere to the highest standards of conduct and to protect sensitive information just as we would expect from a law enforcement officer," said Col. Mike Oliver, Commander of the SCHP, in a press release. "While our internal investigation continues in this matter, we want the public to be assured that this is not a systemic issue and we have strict safeguards in place regarding the use of sensitive information. In this isolated case, an employee took information used during the legitimate course of his duties and used that to commit a criminal act.

"Because of the very serious implications of such a crime, however, we made the decision to swiftly terminate Mr. Pearson from the Department as soon as we learned of his impending arrest and we will be working with local law enforcement to assist in the prosecution of this matter."

Pearson had been with the department since 2006.
